The Metropolitan Police said today they have agreed a final settlement with PC Carol Howard, after an employment tribunal ruled that it had "singled out and targeted" her for discrimination for almost a year.

The force also said that it had accepted her resignation.

The 35 year old former Firearms Officer brought a case against the Met last year at the Central London Employment Tribunal. During the hearing the panel were told that an internal report had been deliberately rewritten ahead of the tribunal - with an officer being asked to delete references into discrimination related to race or sex.

PC Howard was awarded £37,000 by the tribunal in September after the panel found she had been "directly discriminated against" between January and October 2012. They also said her complaints of bullying and victimisation were "well-founded".

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police apologised for the impact the discrimination has had on PC Howard.
