Man shot dead by police in Enfield named as James Fox

The 43-year-old man shot dead by police in Enfield, north London, late on Sunday night has been named as James Fox.

Armed police stormed the sixth floor building of Picardy House, Enfield, after receiving reports that a man with a gun was threatening to shoot someone. Residents described how 20 officers crowded into the building before hearing gun shots at around 11.50pm on Sunday.

Dowan Mustafa, 20, who lives above on the seventh floor said:

Scotland Yard said Mr Fox was pronounced dead at the scene and a "non-police firearm" was discovered.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and an investigation has been launched.
