Pictures of a dramatic escape from a burning building involving two young children have emerged.
London Fire Brigade posted the images of the rescue which involved two children and a woman being helped down a ladder from a third-floor housing block engulfed in flames.
The trio and another man were taken to hospital following the fire in Islington, north London, on July 16.
Thirty-five firefighters and officers attended the scene with six fire engines.
"Thankfully a smoke alarm sounded alerting a woman to a fire in her flat so she had an early warning and was able to call the Brigade", station manager Jerome Kumedzina said.
"This fire broke out early in the morning, without the alarm the fire could have easily spread undetected.
“There is no doubt that without the vital combination of the smoke alarm and the quick work of firefighters this story could have had a very different ending".
