Christmas rail travel: Is your journey affected?
If you get around London and the South East by train don't be caught out by changes to the timetable over Christmas.
Services into some of London's busiest stations are being affected by engineering work.
LIVERPOOL STREET
Saturday 24 and Tuesday 27 December
No trains will run between London Liverpool Street and Ingatestone/Billericay.
Trains to/from Norwich will run between Witham and Norwich.
Customers should use London Underground Central Line between London Liverpool Street and Newbury Park. Buses will run between Newbury Park and Witham / Ingatestone.
Buses will also run between Shenfield and Ingatestone.
A shuttle service will run between Witham and Braintree
Wednesday 28 to Monday 2 January
Customers travelling direct between London Liverpool Street and Colchester/Ipswich/Norwich should travel via Stansted Airport then by non stop bus service to/from Witham for forward rail connections.
Customers for stations between London Liverpool Street and Witham should use London Underground Central Line between London Liverpool Street and Newbury Park then bus service between Newbury Park and Ingatestone.
Customers may also use local bus route 100 between Chelmsford and Billericay.
c2c are not affected by this engineering work.
TfL Rail
Tuesday 27 December
All TfL trains are replaced by buses throughout.
Wednesday 28 to Monday 2 January
Four trains per hour will run between London Liverpool Street and Chadwell Heath. Buses replace trains between Chadwell Heath and Shenfield.
The train ticket you purchased for your journey will be valid on the replacement bus.
Non folding bicycles are not allowed on rail replacement bus services at any time.
WATERLOO
Major improvement work taking place between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction on Saturday 24 December.
The following amendments will apply on routes to and from London Waterloo.
Alton - Trains will run to an amended timetable calling additionally at Bentley. Trains from Alton will also call additionally at Weybridge, Walton-on-Thames, Wimbledon and Clapham Junction.
Basingstoke - Trains will call at Clapham Junction, Wimbledon and West Byfleet.
Chessington South - Trains will run between Wimbledon and Chessington. Customers should use alternative trains between London Waterloo and Wimbledon.
Dorking - Trains will not run. Customers should use Southern Trains to or from London Victoria or Clapham Junction.
Guildford - Trains via Cobham and Stoke D’Abernon will run between Surbiton and Guildford. Trains via Epsom, will run between Wimbledon and Epsom.
Hampton Court - Trains will run between Surbiton and Hampton Court. Customers should use alternative trains between London Waterloo and Surbiton.
Haslemere - Trains will run between Woking and Haslemere calling additionally at Worplesdon. Customers should use alternative trains between London Waterloo and Woking.
Hounslow via Richmond - Trains will run between London Waterloo and Twickenham via Hounslow.
Salisbury - This service will not run, customers should use trains to and from Exeter St Davids.
Poole - Trains will run between Basingstoke and Poole.
Portsmouth Harbour - Trains via Guildford will call additionally at Clapham Junction. Some trains will also call additionally at Farncombe, Godalming, Liphook, Liss, Bedhampton and Hilsea extending journey times. Trains via Basingstoke services will start / terminate from Basingstoke.
Strawberry Hill - Trains via Wimbledon and trains via Richmond, will run between Clapham Junction and Kingston.
Weybridge via Hounslow - No trains, customers should use alternative trains between London Waterloo and Virginia Water. Replacement buses will run between Virginia Water and Weybridge calling at all stations.
Weymouth - Trains will make additional stops at Clapham Junction, Surbiton, Woking, Farnborough or Basingstoke. Trains to London Waterloo are diverted via Chertsey.
Woking - Trains will run to a reduced timetable. Trains will call additionally at New Malden and Raynes Park.
PADDINGTON
Major improvement work at London Paddington from Saturday 24 December until Monday 2 January
Monday to Thursday - all lines will be closed between London Paddington and Ealing Broadway. As a result of this there will be no trains to or from London Paddington.
The following alterations will apply:-
Heathrow Connect & Heathrow Express - There will be no Heathrow Connect or Heathrow Express trains to or from London Paddington. Trains will run between all Heathrow Airport Terminals. Customers should find alternative transport to or from Heathrow Airport.
Great Western Railway
Customers are advised to use London Underground on any reasonable route to travel between London Paddington and Ealing Broadway. Out of London Underground hours, replacement buses will run between London Paddington and Ealing Broadway.
Ealing Broadway has no step-free access. If you're going to have luggage, children or need step-free access to trains you should use the following London terminals:-
London Euston if you are travelling to / from the Hereford area. Passengers should use London Midland trains to / from Birmingham New Street then then trains between Birmingham New Street and Hereford.
London Marylebone if you are travelling to / from the Oxford area
London Waterloo if you are travelling to / from Bristol, South Wales, South West, Reading or Basingstoke.

The following alterations will also apply on the following routes:-
Bristol Temple Meads - Train service to and from Bristol Temple Meads will run to an hourly service with most trains calling at Didcot Parkway.
An hourly service will run to and from Reading
Cheltenham Spa - Trains will only run between Swindon and Cheltenham Spa, customers should us alternative trains to or from Swindon.
Exeter St Davids / Plymouth / Penzance - Some trains may call additionally at Pewsey, Westbury, Castle Cary, Taunton, Tiverton Parkway.
Some trains to and from Exeter St Davids will be extended to terminate / start at Plymouth or cancelled.
Greenford - No trains will run to or from Greenford. Customers should use London Buses or London Underground.
Henley-on-Thames - Trains will run to an amended timetable between Twyford and Henley-on-Thames.
Newbury and Bedwyn - Trains to Newbury and Bedwyn will run between Reading and Newbury / Bedwyn only.
Oxford - Fast trains to and from Oxford will call additionally at Maidenhead and / or Didcot Parkway. Local trains to and from Reading / Oxford will run to a reduced timetable. Trains will not call at Burnham or Taplow. Customers should circulate via Slough using replacement buses, which will run every 30 minutes.
From Tuesday to Thursday additional rail shuttle service will run between Oxford and stations to / from Banbury.
Friday to Monday
Various lines will re-open to allow some trains to / from London Paddington.
Heathrow Connect and Heathrow Express - On Friday and Saturday there will be no Heathrow Connect service. Heathrow Express will run to a half hourly timetable. On Sunday, Heathrow Connect will run to an hourly service. Heathrow Express will run to a normal timetable.
From Monday 2 January, normal timetable applies.
Great Western Railway
Bristol Temple Meads - Trains to Bristol Temple Meads will depart London Paddington 3 minutes earlier, with some trains calling additionally at Didcot Parkway. On Sunday only trains will run to an amended timetable.
Cardiff Central / Swansea / Penzance - Trains will run to an amended timetable.
Cheltenham Spa (Worcester Shrub Hill) - Trains will only run between Swindon and Cheltenham Spa to an amended timetable.
Exeter St Davids / Plymouth / Penzance - Some trains to and from Exeter St Davids will be extended to terminate / start at Plymouth or cancelled. Monday only trains will run to a reduced timetable.
Greenford - No trains will run to or from Greenford. Customers should use London Buses or London Underground.
Henley-on-Thames Monday only - Trains will run to an amended timetable between Twyford and Henley-on-Thames.
Newbury and Bedwyn - Trains to Newbury and Bedwyn will run between Reading and Newbury / Bedwyn only.
Oxford (Great Malvern / Hereford) - Trains will be retimed to depart London Paddington earlier and arrive London Paddington later than normal. Local trains to Oxford will run to a half hourly timetable. A rail shuttle service will operate between Oxford and Banbury.
Reading - No trains will call at Burnham or Taplow, customers should circulate via Slough using replacement buses, which will run every 30 minutes.
CHARING CROSS/CANNON ST & LONDON BRIDGE
Major improvement work between London Charing Cross / London Cannon Street and London Bridge Saturday 24 to Tuesday 27 December
Engineering work is taking place in the London Charing Cross area closing all lines.
There will be no trains to or from London Charing Cross.
The only trains to run to or from London Cannon Street are four trains per hour to / from Dartford calling at Deptford and then all stations to Dartford via Woolwich Arsenal.
All other services to / from London Cannon Street and London Charing Cross are cancelled or diverted to start from either London Victoria / London Bridge / London Blackfriars.
