Analysis of London Fire Brigade figures found that in the last three years, only 14 fires were attributable to e-cigarettes. In comparison, smoking-related fires topped 3,500. These were fires cause by tobacco smoking, and not extinguishing cigarettes properly.

Our preference is that you stop smoking altogether but if you must smoke, vaping holds fewer fire risks than cigarettes as butts, ash and matches are often carelessly discarded which can lead to fires.

Assistant Commissioner Dan Daly, London Fire Brigade

Smoking is the third largest cause of accidental house fires in the capital. However the brigade figures cite smoking as the single largest cause of death.
