The shooting is the latest in a spike of violent crime in the capital with over 60 murder investigations being launched since the start of the year. There are fears that knife and gun crime is now at its highest level for a decade.

Detectives investigating last night's shooting are appealing for witnesses as a crime scene remains in place in Cumberland Road and in Essolado Way. Forensic analysis including ballistic examination is also underway. There have been no arrests.

I would like to appeal to anyone with information to contact police at the earliest opportunity. Detectives are busy at the scene and working to build a clear picture of the circumstances of this fatal attack.

– Detective Inspector Justin Howick, Metropolitan Police

Police are asking anyone with any information about the shootings to call them on 101, quoting CAD 7757/01May. Information can also be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
