A 19 year old man is recovering in an Essex hospital after being shot in the stomach in what police believe was a targeted attack. It's thought the teenager was approached by two men in a residential area of Tilbury at around 7:15pm last night. Police cordoned off Raphael Avenue and Sullivan Road where the incident is believed to have taken place.
Locals were alarmed by a large police presence at Basildon Hospital where the teenager was taken last night. Armed officers guarded one entrance and forensic teams were seen inspecting a car outside the hospital. In a tweet the hospital reassured the public that it's Accident and Emergency department remained open.
Detective Inspector Stuart Truss, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "This investigation is in a very early stage but we're already building up a picture of the circumstances which led up to it. While it is unclear what the motive behind the attack was we believe it was targeted and there is no risk to the wider public."
Police are asking for anyone who may have seen or heard anything in Tilbury, or have CCTV, or dash cam footage, to call 101 quoting incident 1114 of September 26.
