The remains of a 63-year-old man who went missing eight years ago have been found around 30 miles from his home.

Skeletal remains discovered by road workers in Essex have been identified as belonging to Michael Forrest.

Mr Forrest, who had dementia, was last seen near his home in Ockelford Avenue, Chelmsford, on the morning of December 7 2010. Despite an extensive police search Mr Forrest was not found.

On January 3 this year a skull was discovered near the A126/A13 junction, by people carrying out work for Highways England.

The rest of his remains were recovered on Tuesday after further searches in a wooded area between the A126/A13 junction and the Lakeside Sports Ground. Mr Forrest's family have been told. Police said his death is being treated as unexplained but added:

There is no evidence anyone else was involved. This is a tragic discovery and my heart goes out to his family.
