A car free day being planned by London mayor Sadiq Khan for September will see 20 kilometres of roads in central London closed to cars.
Roads in the City and around Tower Bridge and London Bridge will be shut to all or most motor vehicles on Sunday, September 22. Some, including London Bridge, will stay open to buses, but most, including Tower Bridge will be closed to everything except bicycles and pedestrians.
More than half of London's boroughs are organising events for the day. Many are planning 'Play Streets' which see local roads closed off to through traffic to encourage children to play outside.
More than two million Londoners live in areas that exceed legal limits for carbon dioxide, including more than 400,000 children under the age of 18.
