Crossrail on track to open 'between October 2020 and March 2021', chief exec tells ITV News

The Chief Executive of Crossrail has confirmed the line is on track to open 'between October 2020 and March 2021'.

Work began on the project ten years ago and it should have been ready last year.

When completed the Elizabeth line will serve 41 stations from Reading to Shenfield.

We're on track to open Crossrail within the window we defined earlier in the year which was between October 2020 and March 2021.

We're making a lot of progress, but there's still a lot of work to do.

– ark Wild, Crossrail Chief Executive

The project's chief executive apologised to Londoners for the delays.

We're very disappointed, personally disappointed, that we didn't open this railway in December 2018.

It's really terrible for the retailers, house owners and people who have jobs in London and beyond that this fantastic railway isn't available to them.

But my commitment and the commitment of the 7,000 women and men who are building Crossrail now is to work hard and get this open as soon as we can.
