Lonely cat Monique spends her birthday alone (and needs a new home)

London's loneliest cat, Monique, is still looking for a new home after no one came to her birthday party.

A picture of Monique sitting by herself under a Happy Birthday banner went viral with people all over the world getting in touch with Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

The cat has been waiting patiently for 125 days for someone to give her a new home.

It's so heartbreaking to see all the other cats getting re-homed and Monique just sitting here waiting.

The birthday party didn't go down as well as hoped - we all enjoyed it and gave her lots of love and treats but there wasn't anyone in terms of coming to re-home her.

So it was a bit of a sad day!

Staff at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home think one of the main reasons no one has taken her home is because she's an FIV cat, or has feline immunodeficiency virus.

It's similar in its effects to the human form, HIV. So that does put people off. But unlike the human form Monique does not have to be on any medication and it doesn't necessarily affect her day-to-day life too much she's healthy in every other way.

Because Monique has FIV she needs a home where she is the only pet because the virus could be transmitted if there were a fight. The garden also needs to be enclosed so other cats can't get in and she can't get out.
