Coronavirus: Notting Hill Carnival 2020 still set to go ahead on August Bank Holiday weekend

Organisers of the Notting Hill Carnival say the event is still due to take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The statement comes as hundreds of events are cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The world famous carnival has taken place in west London every year since the 1960s and preparations for this year's event are still "in full swing".

Carnival has faced many challenges in its 50 year plus history and Carnivalists have always shown resilience. Of course it is necessary to adapt to the uncertainty we are all experiencing, as government advice can change at any time. Like everyone we are hopeful that the situation in the UK will have improved by June.
