Sadiq Khan backs decision to close pubs, restaurants and clubs during coronavirus crisis

Sadiq Khan told ITV News he generally supported the package of financial help set out by the Chancellor to help during the coronavirus crisis. London's mayor also backed the Prime Minister's decision to shut down pubs, restaurants and clubs.

The mayor spoke after figures showed a significant increase in the number of Covid-19 cases across the capital.

Every borough in London now has confirmed cases. The latest numbers show that Southwark has the highest number at 82 - followed by 81 in Lambeth - and 78 in Westminster.

My message to Londoners is to stay at home unless you have to leave. Try and work from home if you can. Please don't use public transport unless you're a critical worker.

It's really important we follow the advice from experts. If you don't you're risking your personal health. You're potentially risking the lives of those who are elderly or those who are vulnerable and you're putting further pressure on our hard working NHS staff.

– Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London
