Rugby commentator makes London smile with comical twist on Tooting life

A rugby commentator with no rugby to commentate on during lockdown has turned instead to the comings and goings of Tooting.

Commentator Nick Heath

Nick Heath added his voice to ordinary, everyday situations in south London and has created a few viral hits in the process.

I could see that I was staring down the barrel of weeks and months without any work so I took myself off for a bit of walk, spotted a couple of guys kicking a football around and thought it was a good opportunity to rehash a good parody commentary voice I used to do to entertain my mates - and maybe entertain a handful of followers on my Twitter feed.

Since posting his videos Nick has had thousands of views and plenty of positive comments from people finding escapism in his brand of comedy.

I’ve had hundreds, or thousands of people getting in touch saying at this really difficult time either a key worker or people anxious about loved ones and just finding these times pretty testing saying 'I’ve had the toughest day but you’ve given me a belly laugh'.

Nick’s ability to add comedy to normally mundane scenarios has turned him into a social media star.

I enjoy being a commentator on rugby union and when the Gallagher Premiership resumes and perhaps some postponed games in the women’s Six Nations I’ll be looking forward to getting my match preparation done and getting into those games - and maybe a few of my followers might enjoy the oval-balled game!

With sport not expected to return for many more weeks Nick’s life commentary is light welcome relief proving the smallest moments told in the right way can have a big impact.
