Fire crews are battling a blaze at an industrial estate in Edmonton.
100 firefighters have been trying to control the flames on Advent Way in Upper Edmonton since 3am. 15 fire engines from at least eight boroughs are at the scene.
Station Manager John Tovey said: “The fire is affecting a range of single storey industrial units and crews are working really hard to get it under control.
“Fortunately the buildings on fire are located on an industrial estate and are away from any residential properties “
Firefighters are to hold another strike next Wednesday - and have also been balloted on further industrial action.
The fire brigades union leader Matt Wrack tweeted:
Firefighters across the capital have once again walked off the job as part of national strikes over changes to pension schemes.
The action comes in response to government plans to increase the retirement age of firefighters to 60.
Firefighters will go on strike this evening in a dispute with the government over pensions.
The walkout, which will happen this evening between six thirty and eleven o'clock, coincides with the start of Bonfire Night celebrations in the capital.
A last planned strike, on 19th October, was cancelled.
A strike by London firefighters planned for tonight has been called off.
Members of the Fire Brigades Union had been due to walk out for five hours in a row over pensions.
The London Brigade said it will be issuing further fire safety advice in the lead to any potential strike date.
London Fire Commissioner, Ron Dobson, said:
London Fire Brigade said today it is ready and prepared to deal with a firefighter strike, following the announcement that 78% of Fire Brigades’ Union (FBU) members who took part in the ballot have voted in favour of strike action.
A strike, which would be the first national firefighter strike in over a decade, is over a dispute between the FBU and government over the government’s reforms to the Firefighters’ Pension Scheme.
Firefighters have voted by almost 4-1 in favour of a strike in a row over pensions, said the Fire Brigades Union.
