Seven sentenced over illegal football ticket sales

Seven people have been sentenced for the illegal sale of football tickets worth over a million pounds. It follows an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service's Police Central eCrime Unit into the illegal sale of tickets to Premier League football games via the website 'onlineticketexpress'

Working with a number of Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur, the investigation discovered that the defendants were using false names to obtain club memberships in order to purchase tickets. In one season, over a million pounds worth of tickets were sold.

Michael Maygier, Michelle Deborah Kahtan, Jerome Scaletta, Mark Woof, Simon Huck and Patrick Withers had previously pleaded guilty to various offences including conspiracy to commit fraud and possessing criminal property. Yonatan Miger was found guilty at Southwark Crown Court in June 2012.

"Before you buy any tickets online please ensure it is an authorised seller of the tickets and conduct some research into the website before you buy. If you buy tickets from unauthorised sources you risk paying over the odds for what may not be genuine tickets, being refused entry, and you could even get your details stolen."
