A man who robbed and severely injured a 91 year old lady has been sentenced to 11 years. Lynne Elmer-Laird was in court for the sentencing. Her forehead is still visibly bruised from the attack on 14 August.
She described how Banton, a strong man who is 6 ft 2, forcibly pushed her over as he stole her handbag. Banton made off with £20 pounds. Miss Elmer-Laird suffered a blood clot to her brain, severe bruising and a broken arm. She told the court she now fears going out on her own since the attack.
Through his lawyer Eric Banton said he felt "deep remorse and deep shame" for his actions. Banton, who's 49 and from Northumberland Park, broke down in tears as the offence was read out, and continued to weep throughout the hearing at Wood Green Crown Court.
