Royal Marines miss out on world record
A team of Royal Marines attempting to break a World Record for the fastest Speed March Marathon were left disappointed, despite an impressive time.
They completed the course in 4 hours, 17 minutes and 21 seconds, almost 2 minutes faster than the previous record. However, the team sadly the missed out on the Guinness World Record as one member collapsed half a mile from the finish line, and a minimum of eight need to complete the course.
They took on the 26.2 mile course through Central London this morning, carrying kit and weapons weighing over 40lbs.
Despite the disappointment, David Cameron congratulated the team on their achievement when he greeted them a the finishing line. He joked: "Perhaps I should have a word with the Guinness Book of Records and see how we get on."
The marines raised £20,000 for Commando 999 for their march.
