Fire fighters carried stranded cinema goers through a river of water on Victoria Street in central London after a water main burst last night .
The surface of the road was badly damaged when the pipe burst at 6.15pm last night. The Curzon Cinema was flooded, and witnesses reported seeing the road ripped apart and smelling gas in the air.
Fire fighters were on the scene until 9.30pm. Thames Water said the foot wide main was turned off by 10am and that no homes were without water.
