Driver of crashed pleasure boat 'did not hold licence'

The driver of a pleasure boat that collided with a tug on the River Thames did not hold a boatmaster's licence, an accident report found.

The 69-year-old mate of the vessel was at the helm when the 270-tonne Millennium Time crashed last year, injuring nine tourists.

The report from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch also revealed that his employment as the helmsman was contrary to the instructions of the Millennium Time's operators, City Cruises.
