Pedestrian crushed beneath double decker bus in Farringdon

A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being crushed beneath a bus in central London.

The man was hit at the busy junction of Farringdon Road and Clerkenwell Road.

In a statement, Met Police said:

Police were called to Clerkenwell Road, junction with Farringdon Road, EC1, at 13:14hrs today, Thursday, 20 August, following reports of a road traffic collision.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended the scene and discovered a male pedestrian suffering critical injuries following a collision with a bus.

The pedestrian - believed to be aged in his thirties - has been taken to an east London hospital.

Police are in the process of identifying the man and informing next of kin.

The bus, a route 55 via Leyton, remains at the scene.

A number of local road closures remain in place. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
