Sadiq Khan said he “fully expects” to see the number of jabs to increase after data revealed the capital had given the lowest number of vaccinations in England’s regions so far.
The vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said the scheme will be piloted in London or the Midlands and if successful, the government will then look at how to expand the pilots to ensure as many people as possible are being vaccinated as quickly as possible.
Parts of London and the South East are seeing the biggest falls in coronavirus infections, according to figures from Public Health England.
Justin Welby tweeted that he received the vaccination because he is a volunteer member of the chaplaincy team at London’s St Thomas’ Hospital.
