Body on the beach: victim named

Richmond Road will remain closed for some time Photo: ITV Meridian

Detectives investigating the discovery of a man's torso on a Hampshire beach have named the victim. Thirty-year-old David Matthew Guy had been living in the Southsea area but didn't have a fixed address. A group of students discovered his torso in a black bin liner on Southsea beach on Tuesday.

The lower half of Mr Guy's body was found on shoreline rocks yesterday. Detective Chief Inspector Dick Pearson said: “Did you know Mr Guy or any of his friends or associates? If so we would like to hear from you. Even the smallest piece of information could be a crucial part of this investigation.”

A 46-year-old man from Southsea, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, remains in police custody. Magistrates have granted detectives a further 32 hours to question him. Richmond Road in Southsea remains sealed off and a cordon is likely to remain in place for some time.
