Southern strike hits tourist trade in South East, as Eastbourne businesses warn of significant damage

The Southern strike has come at the worst possible time for the South East's tourist trade - the busy summer season.

Sporting events are being hit too. One big casualty is Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club, which expects to lose £300,000 in gate receipts.

In Eastbourne, businesses say the continued rail crisis is having a devastating impact on the town. Unlike other resorts, Eastbourne is only served by Southern Rail.

The local Chamber of Commerce has written to the company's owners warning the continued disruption is causing significant damage to businesses in East Sussex. Tim Cobb is the President of the Chamber:
