Stars lead fundraising for new children's trauma unit

Actress Sarah Parish and her actor husband are fundraising in memory of their daughter

Campaigners for a Hampshire-based hospital are ramping up their efforts to get £2 million match-funding from the government.

The government has promised to give £2 million pounds towards a new children's emergency and trauma unit at Southampton General Hospital - if they first raise £2 million themselves.

The new children's trauma unit, when completed, will provide a centre of excellence for young people across the South of England. A place which offers privacy and dignity - with a children's play area and a monitoring area for nursing and medical staff. Every critically ill child in the region will be sent to Southampton.

Actress Sarah Parish and actor husband Jim Murray, who live in Hampshire, have been involved in the fundraising in memory of their much loved little girl, Ella-Jayne. They set up the Murray Parish Trust in 2014 to make sure that this unit has the best, up-to-date lifesaving equipment it needs, and the space to use it in.

They're encouraging everyone to get involved in the next fundraising event - a week-long teddy bears picnic starting on the 5th June 2017. Friends and family, schools, nurseries and playgroups can all get involved by hosting their own picnic to raise money.

Jim and Sarah joined Luke and Sangeeta in the studio.
