Commuters will find out later how much extra they'll be charged for their rail fares today.

The government links the rise, which comes into effect in January, to July's Retail Price Index measure of inflation.

They've increased twice as much as pay since 2010 according to new research by the union the RMT.

The Department for Transport says the government calculates the cost fairly and 97% of every £1 of a passenger's fare goes back into the railway.
