Major disruption on South Western Railway to London

The orange army have been working on a major upgrade at Waterloo during August

South Western Railway is warning its passengers that there may be cancellation, diversions or revisions to train services across its network today. That's after overrunning engineering works at London Waterloo. The disruption is expected to last until 12 midday.

The firm said that an issue arose when complex signalling equipment was being tested at Waterloo and it needs to fixed. The problem means that the team running the upgrade at Waterloo

"... The Waterloo project has informed us that they are not in a position to hand back Platforms 1-14, despite efforts to recover key milestones in the project, we have been informed that they require more time to complete the work; this will severely affect our train service until 12:00 today. Queueing systems will be in place at various stations across our network..."

South Western Railway statement

The current service includes:

  • Waterloo to Weymouth 2 trains per hour (depart Waterloo xx.05 & xx.35 past the hour - all services will call at Basingstoke and Woking )

  • Waterloo to Salisbury/Exeter St Davids 1 train per hour (depart Waterloo xx.20)

  • Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour 2 trains per hour (depart Waterloo xx.00 & xx.30)

  • Waterloo to Basingstoke 2 trains per hour (depart Waterloo xx.12 & xx.42 - Calls all stations between Surbiton and Woking)

  • Waterloo to Guildford (via Cobham) 2 trains per hour (depart Waterloo xx.03 & xx.33 - Calls additionally at Berrylands, Raynes Park and New Malden)

  • Waterloo to Guildford (via Epsom) 2 trains per hour (depart Waterloo xx.09 & xx.39)

  • Waterloo to Reading 2 trains per hour (depart Waterloo xx.20 & xx.50)

  • Waterloo to Windsor & ER 2 trains per hour (depart Waterloo xx.28 & xx.58)

  • Waterloo to Kingston (via Richmond) 2 trains per hour (depart Waterloo xx.03 & xx.33)

  • Waterloo to Weybridge (via Hounslow) 2 trains per hour (depart Waterloo xx.22 & xx.52)

The following shuttle trains will run:

  • Woking to Alton 1 train per hour (depart Alton xx.44 and Woking xx.30)

  • Winchester to Portsmouth Harbour (SSO Shawford) 1 train per hour

  • Basingstoke to Salisbury - 1 train per hour

  • Poole to Southampton C 1 train per hour

  • Shepperton to Kingston 2 trains per hour

  • Hampton Court to Surbiton 2 trains per hour

  • Guildford to Portsmouth 1 train per hour

Train services will not run on these routes:

  • Chessington South branch.

  • Waterloo to Dorking services.

  • Waterloo to Woking services.

Passengers are being advised they can use tickets to travel via the following alternative routes:

  • London Buses on reasonable routes in South West London.

  • Southern services between London Victoria/Clapham Junction and Epsom/Dorking

  • Great Western Railway services between Reading, Windsor, London Paddington and Basingstoke

  • CrossCountry services between Reading and Bournemouth

  • Thameslink services between Elephant and Castle and Wimbledon

  • London Underground will accept customers on reasonable routes in South West London, and to transfer between London Waterloo, London Victoria, and London Paddington stations.

There is also disruption on trains to and from Kent and Sussex, with some services diverted to Blackfriars.
