Upset as council close two Hampshire respite centres

Two 'lifeline' centres for families in Hampshire will close because of funding cuts, it's been announced today.

Hampshire County Council confirmed in a meeting today it will close the Merrydale Centre in Kingsworthy and the Sunbeams Centre in Aldershot.

Both sites provide care throughout the day and night for children with complex learning and physical difficulties.

Dan Spencer is one of the parents who use the centre and says losing the resource will be stressful for everyone.

The council says closing Merrydale and Sunbeams will save more than £450,000 a year and give more people access to more appropriate respite.
