The cold weather is a particular threat for those who are sleeping on the streets.
Across the region, prolonged sub-zero temperatures like this trigger an emergency response to make sure there is a bed for anyone who needs one overnight.
In Canterbury, the council has extended its emergency response.
Tonight (28/02) there will be beds available in two churches and overnight beds at the Catching Lives day centre.
