Fire crews have contained a blaze that broke out at the Old Cemetery on Southampton Common.
Crews were called out from St Mary's and Eastleigh fire stations after flames were spotted at 1.30pm on Saturday.
Crews spent two hours containing the blaze- the cause of which is being investigated.
In a post of their website, The Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery (FoSOC) said the blaze has caused a lot of damage to the site.
A spokesperson said it was 'an accident waiting to happen, due to the overgrown areas of long grass, bramble and nettles all of which has become increasingly dry due to the hot weather and no strimming.'
Thankfully the fire was at surface level only. If it had gone underground it would have taken a lot longer to put out.
