Healthy Holidays: How ping pong is keeping the over 50s strong

Played by millions around the world, table tennis, or ping pong, is believed to have several social, mental and health benefits.

As part of ITV's Healthy Holiday's series, ITV News Meridian went along to visit a table tennis club in Oxford, which is put on especially for the over 50s.

To encourage more interest in the game, free play tables have been set up in the streets and cities across the country.

The game became an Olympic sport in 1988, however its origins date back to the late 19th century.

Members of this over 50s club have been using this club to keep fit and stay social.

The club say it aims to make the sport accessible to everyone, regardless of age or ability.

Being nearly 60 I thought 'let's do some exercise', hoping that it would be fun, and it is nothing but fun. You meet loads of people and it's like a big, friendly social club. It's just absolute fun."
