Southampton face Everton for the second time this season as they travel to Merseyside for their third round Carabao Cup tie against the Toffees.

Saints, who lost 2-1 on their previous visit to Goodison Park this campaign, will be looking to improve on that result in a cup tie expected to give both managers an opportunity to rotate their squads.

Mark Hughes made wholesale changes for their second round victory over Brighton, and the likes of Matt Targett and Manolo Gabbiadini are likely to feature once again.

Shane Long (toe) is Saints' only injury concern, while Everton boss Marco Silva will be without Andre Gomes (thigh), James McCarthy (calf) Yerry Mina and Seamus Coleman (both ankle).

Everton have lost five of their last six cup ties against Premier League opposition, while Southampton have won nine of their previous 11 League Cup matches against Premier League sides.

Saints, however, have not tasted victory at Goodison Park in their last 14 visits, losing 10 and drawing four.

This will be just the second League Cup encounter between the two sides in what will be their 100th meeting in all competitions, with Saints running out 2-1 winners in their only previous League Cup match.
