A 45-year-old man has been released on conditional bail after he was arrested on suspicion of trying to steal the Magna Carta.
On Thursday evening, alarms were activated at Salisbury Cathedral after an attempt was made to smash the glass box surrounding the ancient manuscript.
The Magna Carta wasn't damaged and nobody was injured in the incident. The Dean of Salisbury said a man was wrestled to the ground by staff when he attempted to flee.
Wiltshire Police says the 45-year-old man has been bailed while officers continue making enquiries.
Police are still appealing for witnesses and say anyone who was in the cathedral at the time but hasn't yet spoken to officers should get in touch via 101 or Crimestoppers.
