17-year-old girl arrested after 'several homes' damaged in Herne Bay fire

A 17-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire damaged a number of homes in Herne Bay.

The fire, which broke out yesterday afternoon, is believed to have started in a back bedroom of a house in Barnfield and spread to the roof.

A neighbouring house also suffered fire, smoke and water damage. Two other properties suffered smoke damage. Emergency accommodation has been provided for two families.

Firefighters rescued a pet dog from the property and everyone living there has been accounted for.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service Volunteer Response Team and the Red Cross Volunteers have been offering welfare and emotional support to residents.

The 17-year-old girl from Herne Bay has been released pending further investigation.
