A motorcyclist has died after an accident on the M4 near Chieveley.

Shortly before 4.30am today, Tuesday, officers were called to a report of a collision on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 13 and 12.

A motorcycle was involved in a collision with debris on the road.

Emergency services attended the motorway, but sadly the motorcyclist died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

The eastbound carriageway between junctions 13 and 12 was closed while officers investigated the circumstances.

Thames Valley Police are carrying out an investigation following a collision in which a man sadly died. I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage who has not already spoken to police as this could help the investigation team.

I appreciate many motorists were stopped in the tailbacks, However, officers are working as sensitively as they can to deal with the situation. We appreciate your patience while this is ongoing. Motorists should be aware that there continues to be congestion at Junction 13, the Chieveley interchange, on the A4 and towards Newbury. Please seek alternative routes if you can.

If you have any information about the collision please contact the 24-hour Thames Valley Police enquiry centre on 101 quoting the reference URN 108 18/12.
