Region's water companies spending millions clearing wet wipes

Do you flush your used make-up wipes - or baby wipes - down the toilet? If you do, you may want to think twice.

Many block the sewers, and water companies have complained before about the cost of repairs.

Thames Water spends £18 million a year unclogging the system. Southern Water says it collects thousands of tons of wet wipes, nappies and cotton buds a year.

Now wet wipes will now have to pass strict tests set by the water industry body Water UK. Ashna Hurynag reports.
