  • Watch Mark McQuillan's report below

A special needs school in Bicester has said it is "proud" of the recovery its made after being targeted in an arson attack.

Bardwell School suffered thousands of pounds worth of damage following the fire, which happened on New Year's Eve two years ago.

But the school has since raised more than seven thousand pounds which has helped them repair the damage and create a brand new play area.

The school's shed was deliberately set alight two years ago

It is thanks to the generosity of the local community who stepped in when their shed, full of toys, was deliberately set alight.

One day, we went from having nothing at all and the next day, toys started arriving and soon our staff room was full from the offerings from the local Bicester community so it was quite overwhelming."

– Craig Clarke, Assistant Headteacher, Bardwell School
The school now has a brand new shed after the local community gave what they could to help

I just want to say a massive thank you to each and every one of you for raising the money for the school. It's been a bad fire, it has, and without you we wouldn't have a shed today. So thank you all so much!"

– Jack, pupil
