Cannabis factory found in Herne Bay

Photo:

More than 220 mature cannabis plants have been found growing in a house in Herne Bay.

The cannabis factory was discovered by two police officers on patrol in the town on Saturday after a member of the public told them he had noticed the distinctive smell of cannabis plants coming from a house in The Broadway.

Officers found the plants growing in five tents inside the house.

Growing equipment was found throughout the house and a large number of seeds that were ready to germinate in a bathroom.

I’m such a familiar face in the town that people often come up and talk to me knowing that I will act upon it. Thanks to this particular member of the public we have been able to prevent a large amount of cannabis potentially being sold on the streets of Herne Bay."

– PC Dormer, Kent Police

The factory was dismantled by officers and an investigation is underway to find out who was operating it.

Kent Police says signs of a cannabis factory can include windows being permanently covered from the inside and visits to the address not matching normal residents’ patterns, that is people calling daily or weekly but only for short periods of time.

Anyone with information is being asked to call 101.
