A large oak tree has fallen into a house near Crawley.

The tree came down at around 8 o'clock this morning in strong winds and smashed into the property on Howard Road in Bewbush. A man has been treated for a minor head injury.

The tree fell through the roof and into the first floor of the home according to West Sussex Fire and Rescue who said the roof of a neighbouring house had also been damaged.

Five people were evacuated from the two properties and checked by paramedics for injuries, a fire service spokesman said.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said: “One man was treated for a relatively minor head injury. He was checked over and discharged at the scene.”

The road has been cordoned off while firefighters, council tree surgeons and structural engineers attend the scene, the fire service said.
