Seven suspected illegal immigrants are being questioned after using a mobile phone to dial 999 and saying they were in a small boat in the English Channel and could see land.
Coastguards and Kent Police were called to the beach at Folkestone, after the passengers arrived at shore.
The group reportedly told rescuers that they had been in the small dinghy for more than 10 hours before arriving on the beach alongside Marine Parade yesterday afternoon.
The immigrants, who were believed to have travelled across the busy shipping lanes apparently refused to reveal what nationality they were.
They have been handed into the care of the Border Force. None of them needed medical treatment although their 999 call was understood to have been put through to the South East Coast Ambulance Trust initially.
