Marwell Zoo welcomes new male red panda
A new male red panda called Peter has joined Marwell Zoo in Hampshire.
The three-year-old male arrived on Sunday 7th from Gaia Zoo in the Netherlands as part of an endangered species breeding programme.
He has now joined Marwell Zoo’s female resident red panda, Mei Mei, in a new enclosure.
Peter had been settling in behind the scenes before joining his partner in the public eye.
Red pandas breed once per year between January and mid-March.
Although keepers are not expecting cubs soon, they are hopeful for the future.
