Manslaughter investigation underway after fight near Reading nightclub

A manslaughter investigation is now underway in Reading after a man died following a fight.

Officers were called to Friar Street near Matchbox nightclub at around 11.30pm on Friday, due to reports of a fight between two men.

Thames Valley Police originally treated the incident as a murder investigation.

An 18-year-old man from Crowthorne was arrested on suspicion of murder, but has now been released on police bail until May 10.

A 48-year-old was punched and fell to the floor, hitting his head.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His next of kin are being supported by specially trained officers.

The victim is yet to be formally identified and a post mortem is due to take place on Sunday.

This incident was initially investigated as a murder investigation, however having now conducted a number of enquiries this case has now been classified as a manslaughter investigation.
