The row over a £47,000 'relocation' payment by West Sussex County Council to its chief executive Nathan Elvery has escalated in angry exchanges between councillors and officers.

Opposition councillors say the payment should not have been made - because Mr Elvery has not sold his family home.

But when they tried to publicly voice their concerns at a meeting of the authority's governance committee, they say they were prevented from doing so. John Ryall reports.
