Developers have earmarked land near Henfield for seven thousand homes and businesses.

Mayfields recently signed what's called a Planning Performance Agreement with Horsham District Council. They told us:

Mayfields Market Town is a way to meet long term housing need, by providing affordable, rented and private homes alongside new roads, employment space, local facilities, schools and doctors surgeries, without creating strain on existing villages and towns.

But protesters say the area is totally unsuitable. Brian O'Connell from Locals Against Mayfield Building Spraw says the area is a floodplain.

That review of the local plan is due to be published for consultation this autumn.
