Police appeal to lanehoggers after patrol car blocked on M4 for over a mile

A Thames Valley Police officer is urging motorists not to hog the fast lane, after his patrol car was held up by an inconsiderate van driver.

The Roads Policing officer tweeted dashcam footage of an incident on the M4 near Reading on Friday, when it took the driver more than a mile to pull into the the left-hand lane - despite blue lights flashing and siren sounding.

In a later tweet Thames Valley Police said they were responding to an emergency at the time, so couldn't pull the van driver over. However, the owner of the vehicle would be contacted so that the driver could be given 'suitable education'.
