Man seen wielding knife in Oxfordshire park

Schools and businesses in Didcot in Oxfordshire were affected on Wednesday afternoon as a man was seen wielding a knife in a park. No one has been injured.

Hundreds of people were locked indoors at the Civic Hall and at Manor Primary School while armed police surrounded the man at nearby Smallbone Recreation Park.

Earl;y on Wednesday evening, the situation was ongoing.

We received a report of a fear for welfare incident involving a man in possession of two knives at 1.12pm, and officers arrived on the scene by 1.14pm.

Since the incident started, no one has been placed in ‘lockdown’. Pupils left the school at their usual collection time, and officers are now dealing with the situation within a safely secured cordon, which should limit the impact on the public.

Officers are continuing to work with the man involved in order to ensure the incident is safely resolved for him, all members of the public and our own officers.
