Murder probe launched in Oxford after man's fight death

Thames Valley Police has launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in Oxford.

Officers were called on Thursday 18th July following reports of an altercation involving two men in Cowley Road.

Officers attended the scene where a 57-year-old man had sustained head injuries.

He was taken to hospital for treatment but died from his injuries on Saturday afternoon.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident. He is currently in police custody.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Mike Roddy, of the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit, said: “We are carrying out a thorough investigation into this incident, which has tragically resulted in a man losing his life.

“I know that this incident will cause concern in the community but I would like to reassure people that we believe this to be an isolated incident, and that officers have made an arrest.

“Members of the public might see an increased police presence in the area while we are carrying out our investigation.
