You may have noticed more of these about - because it's the time of year when spiders head indoors to find a mate.
For the most part they're harmless. But for one father from Southampton, a severe allergic reaction to the venom means he's been left with infected wounds and unable to work.
Lewis Pearce wants his family moved from their tower block, saying an infestation of 'false widows' is making life unbearable. Sally Simmonds reports.
Southampton City Council said they had visited the family on several occasions, and had not seen anything of wider concern. They say they will continue to investigate.
