Lifeguards in Sussex are trialling a new remote controlled buoy, which enables them to save lives without setting foot in the water.
The new device has been deployed following a series of tragedies along the south coast.
It is the only one in operation in the country, but three others are being made.
And the device was put into action for the first time at the weekend, saving a kitesurfer who had got into difficulties off the Brighton coastline.
