'You grieve for your destroyed dreams': MP Rosie Duffield's powerful speech sharing own experience of domestic abuse

Domestic violence isn't always physical violence. Psychological control can be every bit as damaging or painful. And in an extraordinary speech in the House of Commons, the Canterbury MP, Rosie Duffield, told a shocked Parliament how she was the victim of domestic violence - as coercive control.

It’s not how they persuade you to meet them for a coffee, then go to a gig, then spend an evening snuggled up in front of a movie at their place.

They don’t threaten, criticise, control, yell or exert their physical strength in increasingly frightening ways.
